Texas Endurance 48 HR Race Recap which gives details on my challenges and strategy for winning the men's race in Fort Worth, Texas.
About this race courtesy Wrath Racing website:
"The 48-hour and 24-Hour at the Texas Endurance Runs are definitely not for the faint of heart, that's for sure! Runners need to be heat acclimated to make headway during the day, and need to have a good race plan to maximize the cooler nights. But in some ways the crazy heat is kind of the point - the runners form friendships in the face of adversity that they otherwise wouldn't or couldn't. For someone new to the sport, those kinds of connections to veterans, and the tips and stories they share, could be invaluable.
For the first 8 years of the race, it was 'by invitation' only - you had to know the RD or one of their friends to get an invitation to run, so we had an idea whether you could handle the race. The original race was a Fat-Ass event with no permits and no shirts. Runners camped in the yard, and ran through the neighborhood and local park. John & Kay donated ice, water, and a location, and any snacks or sodas they had lying around the house.
WRATH Racing is a small business. Our events have a 6-year pay-back horizon, meaning that they are expected to lose money for the first 2-3 years, before gradually starting to earn money each year, and (hopefully) break even overall by the 6th year. None of our events has yet reached the payback horizon, so any cancellations, postponements, or changes in registration numbers will result in a monetary loss for the company, especially if it occurs close to the event date.
Some expenses are paid several months prior to the event, and may be non-refundable (ie Permit applications, Special Event fees, Sanctions, venue deposits & timing deposits)
Medals and ribbon are typically ordered 45 days prior to the event and are non-refundable. Depending upon the design, they might not be able to be used the next year.
T-shirts and other swag are generally ordered 2-3 weeks prior to the event. Depending upon the design, they might not be able to be used the next year.
Aid station items, with the exception of fresh fruit and ice, are generally purchased 1 week prior to the event. Depending upon the item, it may expire before we can serve it at another WRATH Racing event.
That being said, our company's future depends upon treating our runners well, even when circumstances are beyond our control. We are runners too, and we've designed our policies to treat you the way we would want to be treated. "
