We were taught to picture heaven like a payday.
Mansions. Gold streets. Crowns. Every single thing we were denied on earth, waiting for us up in the clouds. And let’s be real — that idea is appealing, especially if life on earth has been heavy, unfair, or stripped.
But I want to ask you a question that may cut deeper than you expect:
👉🏾 If heaven didn’t come with mansions, gold streets, or a crown — would you still want it?
The Marketing of Heaven
From pulpits to funeral programs, heaven has been marketed like a luxury resort package. No bills, no tears, no pain, all-inclusive joy. We’ve been taught to treat it like the ultimate vacation after the grind of life.
And for a people who’ve endured centuries of oppression and lack, that promise hit different. It sounded like hope. It sounded like justice. It sounded like, finally, our turn.
But let me tell you the truth: that version of heaven is not hope. It’s frustration with a bow on it. It’s disappointment recycled into a promise.
The Lie That Was Sold
Our enslaved ancestors were deliberately taught this heaven. Not the heaven of union with Source — but the heaven of delay.
The message was clear:“Don’t fight. Don’t rebel. Don’t resist. Your reward is in heaven.”
That doctrine numbed generations into waiting. It stripped away urgency. It told people that their pain was holy, that their chains were temporary tickets to a future crown.
But let’s call it what it was: control. Psychological control disguised as faith.
And here’s the part we don’t like to admit — that lie didn’t just keep slaves in chains. It’s still echoing today.
Many of us are still waiting on heaven as reparations. We think, if my oppressor got wealth on earth, then I’ll get wealth in heaven. But family, that’s not liberation. That’s just changing the location of the game.
What Heaven Really Is
Let’s reset the definition.
Heaven is not “later.”Heaven is not “someday.”Heaven is not a wishlist of things.
Perfection — the Source of all life — did not design heaven as a mall in the sky.
Heaven is alignment.Heaven is wholeness.Heaven is the return to union with Perfection.
That’s why I asked you earlier: If all heaven offered was Presence — no gold, no mansion, no crown — would that be enough for you?
Because if your hunger for heaven is only about things, then you’re not seeking God. You’re seeking a shopping mall. And malls close.
The Trap We Fall Into
See, this is the trap: We turned heaven into payback.
We said, “If they had it here, I’ll have it there.” But that’s still comparison. That’s still lack. That’s still playing by the same rules the system set up.
No wonder so many live in disappointment. They keep waiting on death to deliver what life has already made available.
The truth? Heaven is not revenge for lack. Heaven is restoration from lack.
The Awakening
So here’s the call: stop waiting to die for heaven.
Heaven is not a gated community in the clouds. Heaven is a state of return. It’s a remembering. It’s waking up and realizing that you can live whole, right here, right now.
When you strip away all the illusions, heaven is simply this: oneness with Perfection.
And that’s not a future promise. That’s a present invitation.
Your Work This Week
So let me leave you with a challenge. Journal on this. Meditate on this.
👉🏾 Ask yourself: “If all heaven offered me was Perfection — no rewards, no mansion, no crown — would I still long for it?”
Because once you know your answer, you’ll stop chasing a heaven of things. And you’ll start living a heaven of presence.
Family, heaven doesn’t start after your last breath.Heaven starts the moment you awaken.
