What does Captain Cook’s ill-fated final voyage have to do with love? Not much, actually, but it serves as a cautionary tale in listening and reading the room. In this episode, I explore the long history of miscommunication—from colonial encounters to the subtle misunderstandings that shape our relationships. I also reflect on love that doesn’t demand, the way horses teach us about trust, and how Christopher has shown me a different way to exist in the world.

This piece started as a historical deep dive and became something much more personal—a meditation on what it means to be understood, to settle into love without fear, and to recognize the quiet ways care is given.
