Early experiences in life leave a mark on us, whether they are harmful or not, and while those marks will be a part of ourselves, they don't necessarily define who we are and who we will become. We can't handle our emotional response to abuse or aggression, but what we can do is to use that emotion in our favor, harness that emotion, and turn it into a positive outcome for our lives.
Today, I chat with the inspiring Carolyn Colleen; she is a renowned keynote speaker, author, corporate leader, business strategist, and Ph.D. candidate for Organizational Development and Behavior. After escaping from an abusive relationship, Caroline found herself at a Salvation Army line, seeking shelter with her baby in her arms, two boxes, and a toddler bed. Fearful for her life, she realized that that wasn't her plan, and a social worker suggested her to take it day by day.
But for Caroline, a day looked like an eternity; she decided to focus on shorter, achievable goals, splitting her day into 5-minute fragments. And that's how her FIERCE method was born, overcoming adversity 5 minutes at a time.
In this episode, Carolyn shares her challenging and inspiring story about how she used fear and uncertainty in her family's favor. We talked about how she managed to turn her traumas into a successful business while helping other women to overcome their traumas. We also spoke about resilience and whether it's something we are born with or something we can train and acquire with time and practice.
