In the first section of this book, we dealt with multiple layers of heart, mind and physiological issues that prevent us from making progress in our Journey to Greatness through Routine. This next section is filled with ideas, tips and tricks to aid us on our journey. Before we dive in, it is important to remind you of two essential concepts:
1. As mentioned in the beginning, this process is a journey. That means that everything you apply must become a lifestyle. You must adopt a brand new way of seeing and thinking when you rise up, prepare for your day and deal with the tasks and challenges in front of you. This takes time, study, practice and effort. There is no “secret formula” to reaching Greatness. It is the small changes you make over time, progressively altering how you view your life and career, as well as, how you react to it. No one can read this book or any book just once and suddenly be transformed into the person they wish to become. We must commit to reading, rereading, applying and growing- consistently and unceasingly.
Now, if you understand and apply what you already read in the first seven chapters, you should be seeing yourself and the world around you, differently. The key is repeating what you learned and possessing an ongoing commitment to change.
2. It is absolutely, vital that you deal with your mind and your heart before any of these next chapters will have a significant effect on you. The “soil of your subconscious” cannot retain good seed sown nor can it produce a bountiful harvest if it is tainted with hurts, bitterness, hatred, offense and negativity. Reading or studying self-help books or materials to improve your life or career will simply dissipate or quickly be forgotten because you have not altered your “inner-life” in order to receive these truths.
As written in earlier chapters, the process of creating new neural pathways begins with the growth of new dendrites and neural pathways. Just like a newborn baby, these newly formed and growing neural networks need constant attention and nourishment. If they do not receive this, they can denature or turn into hot air after only 48 hours of neglect. How many times have you learned or read something that influenced you but ultimately did not change you? This is because you have not dealt with your mind and heart through the practice of creating new habits and routines.
