#6 - ENCOURAGING
In the beginning of this chapter, I mentioned “Necessary Significance”, a vital need we all have no matter what our title, position or experiences in life. Encouraging others is one of the simplest forms of providing significance to others. We can completely alter how someone sees themselves and their future when we take time to tell someone, “Great job!” or “I am proud of you!” or “I know you can do this, I believe in you!”
Encouragement is not about flattery. It is about authentically recognizing the abilities, talents or contributions of others. True encouragement can vastly improve the perception they have about themselves and empower them to step out in areas they would otherwise never succeed in. It can also be used to reinforce behaviors we want repeated.
Consider the following relationships and visualize the outcome of each when you apply encouragement, consistently:
When you create a habit of encouraging others, you become unforgettable. When people think of who is valuable to them or who to invite to special occasions, job offers or great opportunities, they will think of you because of how you make them feel.
