What happens when God's people get tired of following through? The book of Joshua chapters 11-19 reveals a pivotal moment in Israel's history when military fatigue and spiritual complacency led to consequences that would echo through generations.

Joshua's armies had been remarkably successful, defeating a massive coalition of northern Canaanite kings whose forces were "as numerous as the sand on the seashore" and equipped with advanced iron chariots. God's promise of victory had proven trustworthy time and again. Yet after years of conquest, Israel grew weary. They stopped short of driving out all the inhabitants as commanded, leaving pockets of resistance that would become thorns in their side for centuries to come.

Perhaps the most inspiring figure in these chapters is Caleb. At 85 years old, this spiritual giant requested not an easy retirement but the most challenging territory—hill country occupied by actual giants! "I am still as strong today as I was when Moses sent me out," he declared, exemplifying the kind of faith that doesn't diminish with age but grows stronger through experience.

What spiritual enemies have you left unconquered? Are there areas of compromise that seem harmless now but might create future problems? Join us as we explore how completing God's assignments—even when difficult—brings greater blessing than partial obedience.

Questions in this session:

  • What about God hardening people’s hearts?
  • If God has been faithful in the past, can we trust Him in the future?
  • Is it better to get wealth or closer to the Lord?
  • Can a leader satisfy everyone?
