Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!
Thank you so much for joining me again!
Happy Monday!
This week's theme for the podcast is: Personal Boundaries
Personal boundaries are key is establishing & maintaining stability within mental health. Knowing how to create & maintain boundaries are also skills that will become invaluable & crucial to daily happiness & self-acceptance.
Here are some great ideas on how to create, improve & maintain Personal Boundaries!
Here are some notes from today's episode:
- Personal boundaries are the limits we set for ourselves within relationships.
- Someone with healthy boundaries can easily say ‘no’ to things & feel good about it.
- The ability to make decisions based on what is best for you and not based on how it will affect the other person is key.
- There are 3 types of personal boundaries that I want to mention, just to understand how there are multiple levels & how each one depends on the setting & situation you are in.
- The types of boundaries are: healthy boundaries (most sought after), hard boundaries (super ridgid & controlled rules) & soft boundaries (basically not really boundaries).
- Let’s start with Soft Boundaries. These are the types of boundaries (again, not really boundaries) where it is really hard to say ‘no’ to other’s requests, overly involved with other’s problems, dependent on others opinions, accepts abuse & disrespect, and serious fear of rejection.
- Next up, Hard Boundaries. Traits of this type of boundary are avoiding intimacy & personal relationships, won’t ask for help, protective of personal information, no real close friendships or relationships, keeps people at a distance to avoid rejection & can be detached, even in romantic relationships.
- Lastly, the type of boundaries everyone should seek to have, Healthy Boundaries. This will include being able to say ‘no’ to others & accept when others say ‘no’ to them, confident in their own opinions, no compromising values for others, no over or under sharing of personal info, and the ability to communicate personal wants & needs to others.
- Knowing your personal limits will help you live a more balanced life emotionally.
- It will also prevent you from going beyond your zone of comfort & stand up for yourself if others do violate these boundaries.
- The main thing about having boundaries is the ability to live your life the way you want to without feeling guilty about it. The key to this is maintaining your boundaries.
- I hope you are excited to explore more about personal boundaries this week & break down more specific examples & solutions for creating & maintaining your boundaries.
