If you focus on progress instead of perfection, you will see how capable you are at getting closer to accomplishing your goals, rather than allowing perfectionism convince you there is only one way to get there & only the end matters. Here are 5 tips on how to focus on your progress, rather than trying to be perfect.
Show Notes:
Believe me, I do not like it when things don’t go the way I planned. I am the ultimate planner & have issues with too many changes happening, people getting in my way of what I have planned because I have the toxic trait of believing I am right a lot of time & want everything to be perfect. And sadly, that means that if something didn’t turn out perfectly, it meant nothing to me. It was perfection or nothing.
I’m being completely honest with you about all these things I struggle with & am working through because I want you to know you are not alone. I use to be so much more bothered by things not going perfectly or not being seen as perfect by others. But thankfully the growth I have been doing is eliminating that behavior little by little. And I don’t expect that to fully go away ever, to be honest.
When we work on behaviors & mindsets in our lives, we need to accept that it might be something we struggle with the rest of our lives, it’s just a matter of how much & if we can work hard enough to make it the bare minimum. But it’s nothing to be ashamed of. No one is actually perfect, people are just out here pretending to be. I promise you.
So let’s talk about what it means to focus on progress over perfection. When we focus too hard on perfection, we continue to let ourselves down because we are not able to achieve true perfection. We keep thinking if we just do this one thing, if we just get better at this thing or have money for that thing or change this for the 10th time it will finally be perfect. In reality, this isn’t true. We will never be truly perfect. But we are ALWAYS enough.
Focusing on progress will allow you to actually enjoy working towards your goals & it will be a lot easier to motivate yourself to keep going because you’re seeing the milestones you’re hitting as something that matters & is something to be celebrated. When you’re focusing so hard on perfection, you’re only satisfied when you complete it & it turns out the way you wanted it to. Plus, focusing on the progress will allow you to appreciate the new pieces of knowledge you’ve learned, maybe new people that have come into your life & having the opportunity to lean more into gratitude.
