Accepting does not mean you have to like what is happening, but you do need to move on. It can be difficult to do so when you have control issues, but here are 7 tips on how to get that acceptance.
Show Notes:
I want to control everything. I want to dictate what happens & when & how because it makes me more comfortable & less anxious. I want to know what is happening at all times & convince others how they should run their lives so there are no surprises for me there, either, and to again be in control of what’s going on around me.
This is how a lot of people feel about needing to be in control. Being honest with ourselves is the best way to jumpstart any sort of growth or personal improvement because it removes a ton of hurdles that hold you, hostage, & prevent you from retreating to your comfort zone because you haven’t admitted your faults, fears, or forgiven yourself yet. Being able to admit vulnerable things about & to yourself is gold.
But back to needing control. You’ll never have control over everything. Sometimes people think they can control everything if they have enough money & power, which CAN work for a while, but it won’t work for everything or forever. It’s best to just accept this truth now & move forward with tips on how to not let it cause grief in your life.
We believe that if we spend enough time worrying about everything & acting as puppeteers, we will have every answer & solution ready to prevent certain things from happening. This isn’t true, though. We have no idea what is going to happen next, but attempt to consider every possibility to be as covered as we can. But there is no way to prevent a natural disaster from happening, from getting sick with a disease or ailment that goes undetected for months or years, or even a job letting you go not because of your work ethic but because it’s going bankrupt.
The benefit of just accepting what you cannot change: peace & freedom. The peace you will gain is from no longer having to worry about everything & everyone around you & what you believe needs to happen for everything to be under control. Peace & comfort will come upon you (eventually) & life will feel a little calmer. You will gain freedom also from not worrying, but also from staying locked down in your comfort zone & only doing things that feel comfortable to you. Comfort zones stunt personal growth & don’t allow you to try new things, make mistakes & explore new skills & abilities. You’ll be freer to be your true self. Not the safe self you convinced was the real you. Also, we can’t spend our lives in denial of what is actually happening to us or around us because it will only delay the emotional response/reaction that is going to happen.
