Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!
Thank you so much for joining me again!
Happy Wednesday!
This week our theme for the podcast is: Emotions
Emotions can be a tricky thing to navigate and understand, which is why I want to spend some time breaking down how to identify if you are struggling with something specific and my advice on how to tackle it for the better.
Here are some thoughts & encouragement on how to combat tough emotions.
Here are some notes from today's episode:
- Let's start by talking about how depression is something that can easily be hidden.
- It’s also something that affects people differently, as with most mental health struggles, but there are some commonalities.
- There are so many small characteristics that can be identified as having depression without the typical outward appearance of being sad or down or blue.
- Simply the need to worry & control your environment is a clue to someone possibly having depression.
- Focusing on the well-being of others but keeping your inner world a secret is another one. You don’t want anyone to know what is truly going on with you.
- Depression can also cause you to have both bad & good days. It’s not just all terrible days, there can be some days in there that are fine, manageable & that give you the energy to keep going.
- Something that I can identify with is acting out recklessly to cope with what’s happening & what you are feeling. I have done this in the form of shopping, going off in a rage, saying things I seriously regret, things like that.
- And lastly, the biggest tell is withdrawing from everyone and this includes withdrawing from things you actually love to do, too. You don’t want to be around anyone, maybe because you don’t want to burden others or you don’t think they will understand, ect.
- Let me give you some ideas on how to overcome & combat depression!
- One of my favorite things to do is to get outside and be in the sunshine. Even if it’s not super sunny, just a clear day can be so beneficial. I feel like getting outside in the sun re-energizes me.
- Something else that is helpful is doing your best to stay connected. I, myself, have a really bad habit of disconnecting myself from people in my life, but I also feel so great after I spend time in person or on the phone with those people I am closest to.
- Another practical suggestion is to make sure you are getting quality sleep & exercise. I ALWAYS feel great after I exercise. I feel accomplished & proud & ready to take on other things in my life.
- Something I mention all the time is to have a mantra or a place where you store motivational content, things that encourage you & give you a little hope when you feel like you’re in a dark place.
- My last suggestion and something I also mention all the time is to seek out professional help. It’s never too late & for sure not something to be ashamed about.
Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!
