In this episode of Real Work, Real Life we’re talking with Rebecca, a child psychologist, specializing in kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder,

If you’re like me and you can never remember the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist, the difference is that a psychiatrist is a medical doctor and can prescribe medication. While psychologists typically hold doctorate degrees, they do not attend medical school and are not medical doctors.

As we’ll hear more soon, people in this field are in incredible demand, particularly for psychologists that specialize in children. the American Psychological Association estimates that only about 4,000 out of more than 100,000 US clinical psychologists are child and adolescent clinicians.

If this was a path that appealed to you, know that your skills would be in high demand, giving you a lot of flexibility in your job options, and also fulfilling a desperately needed service nationwide. We also go on a bit of a tangent on what people really mean when they say they have “good health insurance” in the US.

Listen to the end to hear Rebecca's advice to her younger self about work: Stay open minded and curious!
