Janet uses her platform to grant wishes for children through the Make-A-Wish Foundation and supports other philanthropic activities throughout communities.
She recently created INPact Academy which includes the DRIP
Program, Youth Coaching and Life Skills Programs, and speaks with many audiences from a variety of stages on the power each of us has to "Be A Drip that Rips and Not A Drop That Plops," showing students and adults that the choices they make casts an intention to an outcome. What excites her most, are the stories she hears and shares in interviews with kids, adults and families throughout the world on the positive INPact they are making through kindness, compassion and connection.
Janet lives in Long Island, NY with her husband Jack, and their children, Michael, (20) and Katelyn (18) and has blended a beautiful family as a stepmom of 3 (now adults) and is a proud "GraGra" of 3 grandchildren. Janet grew up with a passion to work with children and received a BS in Elementary Education and a Master's in Business.
She truly believes that we are all here on purpose for a purpose and is excited to see all teens unwrap their personal gifts and continue to share them with the world through the new experiences they create and encounter.
This interview is extracted from a Facebook live I did with Janet within my private group: Youth Leadership Development.
Be careful what you wish for, the power of the thought. Janet describes how what you think about you bring about. Through her summer camps she has seen the transformation of kids developing from being shy to more outgoing and confident.
This prompted her idea to use these experiences to create a difference in the world. (I love Janet's energy and enthusiasm, don't you?)
In 2014 Janet hosted a week long Pasta swim - yes, swim in 400 lbs of spaghetti!!
This was inspired by the loss of Robin Williams and the role of a doctor that he played in the movie Patch Adams where he treated the patient, not the disease.
It was from this program that Janet created the "Drip program" which works on the basis that when you a drip falls it creates a ripple effect of energy that can be felt world-wide.
Energy creates dopamine in the brain which makes you feel happy and this energy is then released into everything you do. The drip creates this positive energy.
Kids have so much power in them and today's youth truly are going to be the ones who will change the world. They want to be seen, heard, and know that they matter.
This led to the INPact academy. The energy was growing and becoming contagious. Janet shares some amazing examples of what kids have done to help give back to others by using the drip effect to create massive ripples.
One kind act has a compounding effect so make a conscious effort to follow this every day. It is important that we continue to encourage this thought process as kids become teenagers so that it becomes a habit that will be taken into their adulthood.
The negative drip, is the drop that plops. When a drop plops into sludge it cannot ripple. There are always going to be those people who drop rather that drip so we need to be intentional about maintaining the drip effect.
A drip can be a small act, even something as innocent as a smile which we all can do. Even when wearing masks at the moment a smile shows in your eyes.
