Mark has experience working with global organizations including Hilton Grand Vacations, McGraw-Hill, AAA, Randstad, Tesoro, Citrix and Boston Scientific to deliver high quality blended learning solutions.

He has featured in a range of leading global industry publications including Training Magazine, e Learning Guild, Learning Solutions Magazine and Training Industry.

Mark is a Client Partner at Newleaf Training and Development whose mission is to help people and organizations be their best. Newleaf Training and Development deliver seminars, keynotes, coaching and online to help people better manage themselves, lead others and build business financial intelligence.

Mark starts by detailing his career journey which is a clear indication of how you can change direction to lead the life that you choose and you never have to settle for what is expected of you. He had, in his owns words, a pretty awesome childhood where his parents owned a major toy store in the UK. This is where Mark gained the bug for wanting to eventually live and work in the US.

Mark is an advocate of Steven Covey's "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" which advocates starting with the end in mind.

Mark is another example of someone who went to college not knowing what he wanted to do with his career. Even after graduating he didn't know what he wanted and ended up as a teacher.

Note from Chris: This is a wide-spread challenge and one of the reasons why I started this podcast and now work with Young Adults to help them discover their purpose, passion and strengths so that they can earn a good living doing what they love.

Mark decided that he needed to change direction and use the experience that he had gained in a position that would provide him with fulfillment. He always had a plan to become an entrepreneur and the key to his message is that he had a plan, an end in mind. He aligned his experience with a position that would provide him additional experience and set off on a new venture.

The culmination of this journey has brought Mark and his family to Florida where he started his own business as a consultant in Newleaf Training and Development.

Four years later the business is doing well with several employees and Mark has been able to develop and build the online element of the business, even before the COVID-19 pandemic that really brought virtual communication to the forefront.

The current crisis has showcased why it is so important for individuals and organizations to continually look for new and better ways of growing. When we stick with what we know we get comfortable and this can lead to complacency.

Newleaf Mantra: Perception, behavior, results - How we see things drive behaviors which produce the results we get in life.

Mark describes how he put on a lot of weight when he moved to the US because he loved fast food. This perception changed when he had to have a medical as part of the visa process and was diagnosed as obese. He changed his eating habits and exercise routine and in the last 7 months has lost 70 pounds as a result.

What advice do you give your daughter Scarlett?

Look to the future and align your passion with a skill and career path that will be able to pay you the standard of living you require. Become a great leader, remain humble and keep yourself relevant in he workplace.
