As soon as I started my podcast I wanted to introduce Andy as a guest because we are "cut from the same cloth" in terms of our core beliefs around how "people" are the heartbeat of every organization.

After spending 30 years in the corporate world and rising to executive status he realized that there was a difference in how he felt leadership should be versus what he was experiencing which led him to leave and set up his own coaching organization.

Andy describes his last interview experience and it is important to note the different perceptions of how this went. Can you relate to a similar experience in your life?

This was the catalyst for Andy starting his own business so that he could change the way leadership is approached. Treating people with respect, challenging them to grow while making it a fun environment to work in were the traits that Andy wanted to instill. Customer service is another driving factor in his leadership style as improving this will improve the bottom line results.

Make people feel special and they will be loyal to you. This works the same for customers and employees - People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.

Andy Hall Coaching was set up with the desire and urge to make a difference by helping other people to maximize their potential. Andy describes how he had observed young soccer players come into the game showing a lot of potential yet they fall by the wayside and disappear because they don't have the right leadership. This happens in the corporate world too and it is something that can be changed.

Note: Andy and myself will NEVER be ballet dancers!!

Andy became certified by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and then the John Maxwell Team in addition to becoming an Associate with Lane 4 in the UK.

His natural instinct and urge is to help, encourage, and support anyone to live into their potential. This also causes frustration for Andy when he sees people suffering from "George Best" moments where they fail to fulfill their potential. (Johnny Manziel is another example of someone who seemed to have it all and let it go through not having the right support)

Andy was 15 years into his corporate career before anyone showed an interest in his development and introduced him to personal growth. It only takes one person to care in you to make a difference to the trajectory of your life. Do you have this person in your life and are you this to other people?

"Make people fee special and they will buy" is a saying that Chris first heard in 2001. This concept applies to customers and if you replace the word "buy" with "respond positively" it is relevant to employees plus your teenagers.

During this current pandemic it is even more important for organizations to adopt this approach as Andy explains in his example about Virgin America.

"Care about your people and get them to care about your customers will bring you better results" - Andy Hall

Question: What advice would you give to yourself if you could travel back to 1991?

Andy - Believe in yourself! Understand that you have unlimited potential and that you can do whatever you want to do. You are worthy, you are good enough and you are responsible for your own development.

If you don't have someone in your life that is helping add to your belief in yourself, go and find someone who will pull you up.
