Origins of the Rapture: Dispensationalism Explained | E30

One day, millions of people throughout the world simply disappear. With no apparent reason for the disappearances, those who remain are left to wonder if their loved ones are alive, are being punished, or if they themselves are being punished. This is a summary of the Left Behind series of books and movies that has sold millions of copies throughout the world. In many ways, it is the prevailing narrative within the evangelical churches throughout America.

For many Christians, particularly in American, they have been taught a pre-tribulation rapture, followed by 7 years of tribulation, and culminating with the return of Christ before his millennial reign. They have come to believe this is the only narrative and it is right and true. Many are surprised to find out there are other reputable ideas concerning the end times and this narrative may not be held by many scholars and pastors throughout the world. Let's explore the origins of dispensational theology, what it teaches, and why it has become so popular in the past 3-4 decades throughout the American Evangelical culture.

Join us as we continue our end times study of eschatology and prophecy throughout the Bible. We are told to be alert and aware of a coming time that begins with a peace treat and ends with a world ruler's defeat. We are to be watching and waiting - don't be ignorant of the truth.

Next up... we will return to Matthew 24 and summarize the chapter. Hopefully this will bring many of the concepts we have been talking about together like puzzle pieces fit within a puzzle. The goal is to use what Jesus taught as a framework to guide us through our journey in the book of Revelation. Stay tuned.
