TX Gov allows Social Workers to Discriminate - Houston Cinema Arts Festival

On this edition of  Queer Voices, we speak with Januari Fox to discuss Gov Abbott's attempt to allow social workers to discriminate against LGBTQ and disabled Texans. The Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council voted unanimously to restore protections for LGBTQ and disabled clients to Texas social workers’ code of conduct just two weeks after removing them. Gloria Canseco, who was appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to lead the behavioral health council, expressed regret that the previous rule change was “perceived as hostile to the LGBTQ+ community or to disabled persons.”

Then, we speak with Michael Robinson about the upcoming (Nov 12-22nd) Houston Cinema Arts Festival 2020 which will feature over 40 documentary and narrative films, short film blocks, Q&A’s, dance performances, DJ sets, and workshops. We discuss the documentary "Friday I’m in Love: A Night at Numbers" program featuring a work-in-progress extended segment from Marcus Pontello's upcoming documentary on the iconic Houston nightclub Numbers.
