Last week’s countdown of The Top 10 Games of 2019 was one of our longest episodes ever, but we didn’t quite finish the countdown. That’s because our #1 game of the year, FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, was so beautifully, blisteringly good it deserved an episode all of its own, and that’s exactly what we’ve recorded for today: An in-depth, episode-length conversation about one of the very best games we’ve ever had the pleasure to discuss on this show. Sekiro may be the single hardest game either of us has ever beat, and Jonathan in particular had a weird path towards fully embracing what the game has to offer, but we’ve both come out the other side in awe of 2019’s undisputed masterpiece, and between breaking down the bosses, celebrating all the evocative environs, considering the story and characters, and talking about how we learned to stop worrying and love the parry system, Sekiro provides more than enough fodder for this 2-hour discussion.
