Why Do THEY Use Cartoon Characters and Clowns to Sell Us Products?

Did you ever notice they use talking Gecko lizards and Clowns, aka Flow, to sell us inurance, Bears to sell us toilet paper and Tigers to sell us cereal. In the digital age it's sometimes hard to tell real from the animated. But why do THEY use animation to get us to buy products?
