  5. Bec’s, Pop’s & Alec’s personal backpacking tips: Basic needs discussed; Shelter, water, weight of pack/gear, protection, mindfulness of the environment, proper gear, etc.
  • Shelter: small, light tent - easy to carry
  • Water: begin at a water-friendly site to not carry 8 lbs or more of water on your first couple of trips
  • Weight of pack/gear: we recommend not heavier that 15 lbs for your first couple of trips and don’t go further than 5 miles with steep elevation
  • Protection: Have a float plan (tell a reliable source your backpacking or fishing adventure and when you are supposed to be back) and potentially carry a Personal Locator Beacon - link here (no ad, just safety tips :): https://www.acrartex.com/products/resqlink-400/
  • If camping in the back-country, please buy and watch this How to use bear spray | Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=za_-XZKs-Zg
  • Stay environmentally friendly, leave no trace rule and pick up trash if able
  • Get freeze dry meals for light weight protein on the go and wear in your hiking boots before your adventure
  • Be cautious of wildlife sightings: be mindful of the random smell of garbage/trash when you are hiking, bring protection, keep your eyes on the lookout
  • Have the right equipment for the climate you are adventuring and camping in - remember to check the weather 24-48 hours before! Email us for more tips: [email protected]
