In Matthew 13, Jesus tells eight parablesabout the kingdom of heaven. These parables were delivered against the backdrop of the growing oppositionto Jesus’ ministry from religious leaders.
Sometimes people will rejectthe message; sometimes people will actively opposethe message.
the parable of the wheat & the weeds
The weeds probably refer to darnel, a ryegrass that looks similar to wheatuntil it is mature.
the kingdom principle: The gospel will endure opposition.
hard realities
We have an enemy that actively works against us.
Satan is a master at counterfeiting.
It will not always feel like we are winning, and God is more patientthan we are.
Sometimes our actions, even good-intentioned actions, can harm more than help.
Some issues will not be resolved in our lifetime.
the good news
The enemy cannot separate usfrom the love of God.
We can live for Christ in the midst of opposition because we know that we win.
God will deal with injustice.
God will have mercy on those who trust in Christ.

Be discerning--the evil one is always at work.
Choose your battlescarefully. Not everything helps accomplish the mission.
Do not let the presence of evil discourage you. God wins.
