Love on Display

Romans 5:5-11

Justified = Just as if I had never sinned

why we have confidence that God loves us

The Holy Spirit provides an internal witness to believers.

This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Romans 5:5

The cross is God’s sufficient proof of His love.

6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time, Christ died

for the ungodly. 7 For rarely will someone die for a just person—though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. 8 But God proves his own love for us in that

while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:6-8

Christ died for undeserving people.

God’s love is unconditional.

Our Gospel is not performance based.

Undeserved love is the distinguishing facet of Christianity.

Believers are promised they will not face God’s wrath.

How much more then, since we have now been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from wrath.

Romans 5:9

3 types of wrath:

·      Internal

·      External

·      Eternal

Reconciliation = restoration of broken relationship

In Jesus, God accepts me as His child.

10 For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. 11 And not only that, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom

we have now received this reconciliation.

Romans 5:10-11

But to all who did receive him, he gave them the

right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name,

John 1:12
