Brothers and Sisters, St James in the 2nd reading today warns us against oppression and injustice of all kinds especially against the weak, the poor, those who do not belong to "our group or class" and those that God has freely chosen. Moses and Jesus in the 1st reading and the Gospel refused to yield to the fears, jealousy and malicious request of their disciples to stop others whose missions were in line with the will of God but who did not belong to their established groups. Instead of being envious and oppressive, they encouraged their disciples and therefore us today to acknowledge & appreciate such people as co-workers in the vineyard of the Lord and to help them to advance and grow in faith & in the service of God's people.
Sisters and brothers, let us pray for the spirit of Wisdom and humility that in this ever swelling maze of many false and self-made pastors, prophets and wolves in sheep’s clothing, we will be able to discern every spirit. Instead of being envious, jealous or dismissive, let us work with our brothers and sisters as members of God’s family, loving, encouraging, caring for and supporting one another in the name of Christ Jesus our brother and Saviour AMEN.
