Brothers and Sisters in Jesus Christ, today in the readings we are called to reflect on the formula we use to attain true happiness. Often we mistakenly assume that pursuing the three wants of pleasure, possession and power will make us happy. The readings on the contrary encourage us to follow the path of Jesus our brother and Saviour - a path of suffering, detachment and service as the only means to attaining true happiness.
As children of God, by virtue of our baptism, brothers and sisters, we are called everyday to be more like Christ who tells us in the Gospel that "anyone who wants to become great among you must be your servant, and anyone who wants to be first among you must be slave to all" For He did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. May we have the courage and bravery to not follow the way of the world but instead choose the path of simplicity, suffering and service. Amen
