My brothers and sisters in Christ,
The scriptures Readings at Mass this 4th Sunday of Advent outline what is happening. Out of you Bethlehem will be born for me “ the one who is to rule over Israel; his origin goes back to the distant past, to the days of old.” He is coming not only for Israel, but also for “the remnant of his brothers.” He is God the Son, coming among us as a man not to exact the sacrifices and offerings that are God’s due, but to do God the Father’s will: to sacrifice himself so that we can be made holy. His mother is the most blessed of all women. Even an unborn child leaps for joy at the sound of her voice.
Brothers and Sisters as Advent, comes to a climax, Let us stop our busy preparations and meditate on Christmas - the awe-inspiring and unique sense of God as author, director and performer of human salvation through His Son our brother, Jesus Christ with the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. God continues to be present with us directing and shaping human history even as we anticipate the coming of Christ, His son. He calls each and everyone of us to put ourselves at His disposal to take on the unique roles given to each of us in the greatest drama that exists. We have all heard, “Don’t just stand there; do something!” This week, we are called to not just stand there, not just savour the sweetness of your role but to take Christ to others; To bring others to experience Christ by our positive actions as our mother Mary demonstrated in that generous and selfless visit to Elizabeth. Amen.
