Psalm 131 (NRSV)
O Lord, my heart is not lifted up,
my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things
too great and too marvelous for me.
But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a weaned child with its mother;
my soul is like the weaned child that is with me.
O Israel, hope in the Lord
from this time on and forevermore.
In stillness, I remember who I am.
Thomas R. Kelly, from *A Testament of Devotion*
“Deep within us all there is an amazing inner sanctuary of the soul,
a holy place, a Divine Center,
a speaking Voice,
to which we may continuously return.
Eternity is at our hearts,
pressing upon our time-worn lives,
warming us with intimations of an astounding destiny,
calling us home unto Itself.”
