Drew Smith is a managing partner at Urban Commercial Partners in Seattle, and he joins Jennifer Nelson, founder of SCOUT Real Estate, to share some very specific expertise.
A veteran in the real estate industry with 16 years of experience as a “dirt dog,” Drew focuses on finding underutilized space ripe for new construction all over the city of Seattle.
Drew explains that he works with a wide variety of clients, but he is able to use the same skillset across these projects. To be successful with development opportunities, he has to stay flexible and go where the market dictates. Another challenge within his space is that the timeline of deals he works on can span over a few years, and he has to stay present with clients over the whole deal. It’s a job that takes a lot of patience, especially since he doesn’t get paid until the end!
In this episode, Drew shares some practical tips that have contributed to his success, how he manages the challenges he faces, the timeline of how development deals might go, and the different ways he finds the leads for the deals he works on.
Drew also welcomes new partnerships, so if you have a possible opportunity with underutilized space, he would love to hear from you!
