A service of remembrance was held on Friday 15 August – VJ day – to mark the end of the Second World War.
The ceremony was led by the Rev Will Hughes who used his address to remember sacrifices made, difficult choices, the horrors of the camps for Prisoners of War and Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He also referenced current events around the world today.
He also conducted an unaccompanied rendition of the national Anthem and concluded that “Petersfield can sing!”]
Petersfield Town Mayor, Chris Paige tells us of his pride in Petersfield and he also handed the Parade Marshall’s job to Graham Lincoln.
Andrew Kirk speaks to us about his father’s experience in the camps from 1942 to 1945 and thanks Petersfield for remembering.
Wreaths were laid after the two minute silence marked by the Last Post played by Steve Field.
