In this week’s episode of perSPECtive, Chloe is joined by Cadie Nussbaum and Allana Taghioff, founders of USC’s first-ever student-run record label, 840 West. Both Cadie and Allana are juniors studying music industry and came up with the idea for 840 West while doing their freshman year of college online. As they Zoomed into a meeting that planned to revamp the abandoned USC Music Industry Connection, it dawned on them that they could help bridge the gap between students and the industry themselves. Thus, 840 West was born. The label strives to provide student musicians with the same resources traditional record labels would, like marketing, business and legal advice, and even organizing music videos and concerts. Follow along to hear Cadie and Allana’s journey of growing their team from two people to 50+ in just two years, as well as how their own music careers inspired them to help budding artists like themselves.
