Today's Two Topics: (0:33-11:54) The word anxiety is often overused and can be unhelpful. Using a more extensive and varied emotional vocabulary can be beneficial in helping our youth regulate their emotions, respond to difficult situations, and build self-efficacy. (12:05-20:58)

When adolescents are in a state of high emotion, we need to remember the importance of active listening in order to develop empathy. We must listen before we can jump in with direction and advice. To wrap up, we will break down the different components of active listening. (Open-ended questions, Presence, Emotional Labeling, Reflection, and Affirmations).
