When adolescents are in a state of high emotion, we need to remember the importance of active listening in order to develop empathy. We must listen before we can jump in with direction and advice. To wrap up, we will break down the different components of active listening. (Open-ended questions, Presence, Emotional Labeling, Reflection, and Affirmations).
