How to Deal with Frustrating Fitness Plateaus

Fitness plateaus SUCK. We all experience them, and they're ALWAYS discouraging.


Whether your objective is to lose weight, put on muscle, increase your PR, get a faster mile, etc., you will eventually hit a plateau.


What is a plateau exactly? It's a period of time when you seem to stay completely stagnant. No progression, no regression, just a completely steady state.


This might sound fine on paper, but when you've been making progress every week and then all of the sudden you're stuck, it can feel like the end of the world.


There are 3 things that I remind myself of when this happens, and it ALWAYS provides me with the capability of pushing through that plateau. These are:


  1. Reminding myself of the 4 truths of developing the right fitness mindset (check out episode 32 for more details on this)
  2. Compare myself to no one EXCEPT myself from yesterday
  3. As long as my intent is correct, I can be assured that I am making progress


That's it. Simple. Not necessarily easy.


Follow these 3 things for a short period of time and I have a feeling you will be able to capitalize on the power there :)
