3 Steps to Begin Intermittent Fasting

You've heard about intermittent fasting before, especially if you've listened to this podcast in the past.


But have you ever wondered how you actually start intermittent fasting?


Is it something you can just go all in on, all at once?


To that I always tell people NO. It's something that is much easier to incorporate if done gradually over time.


So how do you "gradually" incorporate intermittent fasting?


I've broken it down into 3 steps, all of which are very simple, and in this podcast we go DEEP into each one. But the high level over view of these 3 steps are:


  1. Skip breakfast and consume nothing but water, black coffee, or other near-zero calorie beverages for the first 4-6 hours of the day. One caveat to this is, of course, if you train in the morning you still HAVE to have that post-workout carb and protein. Aside from that, try to keep it zero calorie all the way to that first meal.
  2. Resist snacking in between meals. You don't need to snack between that first and second meal, but if you feel like you really can't make it, then go for something extremely low in calorie that will also satiate you (greens, water, 1-2 rice cakes)
  3. Plan your meals so that you eat right up to the closing of your fasting window. This will allow you to stay full well after your eating window closes.
