From left to right: Leia Genis & Vivian Liddell at Leia Genis’s Studio
Peachy Keen visited Leia Genis in her Atlanta studio to check out her new work in advance of her first NYC exhibition, a group show featuring three of her works that will be up until August 4th at Bergdorf Goodman.
We talked about how she landed (and decided to stay) in Atlanta after a childhood on the West Coast, her early performances and the use of the body and water in her process and not taking yourself too seriously as an artist.
Genis explained how she approaches writing about other artists’ work, and we discussed some of her recent criticism. She shared the eureka moment that led into her recent poetic explorations that she sees as companions to her visual art practice. We also touched on burnout and showing up post-pandemic, and how cycling has been a constant in her life.
