Smart crystals tackle global water scarcity

Scientists have created transparent “Janus crystals” with opposite-facing hydrophilic and hydrophobic sides that flex and transmit light as they capture atmospheric moisture, achieving record fog-harvesting rates in lab tests. Their simple, durable design could be scaled into affordable, off-grid systems to provide clean water in drought-prone regions.
