Derrick Johnson is the youngest international coach in the history of USA Weightlifting. Along with being a Team USA team member (Sr. Worlds, Jr. Worlds, and University Worlds) and USA Weightlifting’s Developmental Coach of the Year, Derrick is the only coach in the world to have 3 Sr. World team members from 3 different countries (Brazil, Canada, and the US). Derrick has also coached a lifter to the 2012 Olympics (represented Brazil) and is the youngest level 5 coach in USAW history. Derrick also became the first African American to be named head coach of an international team for USA Weightlifting. He is also the Founder and President of Kings of Weightlifting, an after-school program that focuses on mentoring children of South Central LA with a direct focus on school studies, nutrition, physical training, and Olympic weightlifting. In this amazing Conversation, we learn of Derrick’s journey: How he found weightlifting, how his relentless work ethic and drive sent him on an incredible part and how he is now giving back to the neighborhoods he came from. Inspiring, educational, and uplifting. Enjoy
