Decides what Goals to focus on
One of the key areas of decisions that successful people consider is what goals to focus on in every season of their lives. This is because we have limited time, resources, and energy at any one given point in time. So, the decision of which goals to prioritise is a success booster and can be consider as wisdom on the path to success.
Getting this right could save you a great deal of stress. knowing what goal to take on at the different seasons of your life could be the difference between compounding successes or stagnation. It could be the difference between scaling up and setbacks.
In this regard, it is important to acknowledge the law of sequence in the equation of success. sequence matters and the goals you choose to focus on could determine the level of success you achieve. It is significant in determining whether success is going to be perpetual for you or not. So, look at your goals and decide on which of the goals will take up your energy, thoughts, and resources at the different seasons of your life.
The power of this is such that when you are able to decide what goals to select for the moment, it heightens your capacity to focus your energy on the work at hand, which has a way of increasing your chances of success; One successful outcome would then fuel your inspiration to take on the next goal.
Often times, the success from the previous goal in one season has a way of helping to point out what could be the next goal and therefore make such subsequent decision easier for the next season of life. This makes success progressive and not isolated disjointed occurrences. This will lift the individual's efforts from just being a trial and error; hit and miss engagement to a sequence of events where one project dovetail into another. Elon Musk is a great example of choosing different goals to focus on in different seasons. Elon musk focusing on delivering his PayPal project and then subsequently selling out his stakes to invest in the Tesla project and then taking on the SolarCity initiative before moving on into the SpaceX project is very instructive in the decision of what goal to take on at the different seasons of one’s life.
In 1995, Musk co-founded Zip2 with his brother Kimbal with a loan of US$28,000 from their father. They would develop this business and later sold it in February 1999 to Compaq for $307 million cash and US$34 million in bonds.
Musk decided to refocus by creating a new company X.com in March of 1999 as an online financial services and email payment company. In 2000, X.com had a merger with Confinity who had a money transfer service called PayPal. PayPal would be acquired by eBay for US$1.5 billion in stock and Musk 11.7% shares of that brought what he received to US$165 million Musk then focused on co-founding Tesla, SolarCity. Hyperloop, OpeAI, Neuralink. Musk would go back to PayPal in 2017 to purchase the X.com back again. This would now determine his next area of focus. It is important to note that his ability to decide on what goals/ project/initiative to focus on is a major strength of his string of business successes.
Success does really become habitual when one is able to focus on specific goals per time. Elon Musk is said to sees failure and setbacks as pointers to the options of what to do next. He said “Failure is only an option. If things are not failing, you are not innovating enough.” Look at your life at every season and ask yourself the question, what should I decide to focus on in this season. Every season has a product it should birth and a project it should deliver. Just like you have in the natural, some fruit and plants do better in a particular season than the other, it is important that you decide on what goals to focus on at the different seasons.
