"We originally wrote it intending it to be a Christmas song.  The premise was imagining how “dark” it was at the beginning of creation, how “dark” it was in the world before Christ came, and how “dark” it is now.  Jesus is the Light of the World.  He breathes life into us, so we are the lights in the world."
