Timothy was told that Paul’s scriptural instruction wasn’t optional to tell the church nor optional for the church to obey. He was to command (Gr. paraggellō, ‘to transmit an order or charge’) and teach (Gr. didaskō, ‘to impart instruction’) God’s word without reservation. Pastors are servants of God and are required to tell His truth regardless of their feelings, political pressure, or cultural values. Preachers are to be the conduit of God’s truth. As the people learn, they can then apply it and start to please God. God set the pastor as the instrument of information so God can be the instrument of transformation (Heb. 13:17). Scripture isn’t suggestions to ponder from God but are requirements to please God. Most issues in the Christian life aren’t from lack of knowledge but lack of obedience!
