Sabrina’s journey into podcast guesting began unexpectedly. With no intention of starting a business and no knowledge of what a podcast was, she found herself offering to help someone share their powerful testimony. “I had no idea what I was offering to do for this woman,” Sabrina recalls. “And she says, ‘Yeah, I’m supposed to be speaking. The Lord’s already told me that. Let’s do it.'”

This led to what Sabrina describes as “building the plane as you go” business model, where she discovered podcast guesting as an effective way to help her clients share their message.

“Never discount yourself or count yourself out from doing what you feel like God is leading you to simply because you don’t know. It’s okay. He knows and that’s enough.”

Getting Started with Podcast Guesting

If you’re interested in trying podcast guesting, Sabrina recommends starting in communities where people are looking for collaboration partners. Here’s a simple approach:

1. Join communities (like Kristen’s) where podcast hosts gather


2. Share that you’re passionate about your topic and looking for opportunities to add value


3. When someone responds with their podcast, listen to 2-3 episodes to understand their message and audience


4. Reach out authentically: “I listened to your podcast. I listened to this episode. I totally relate and resonate with what you shared. I think I could really add value to your audience because this is what I’m passionate about sharing.”

Remember, podcast hosts are looking for guests who can fill in gaps and solve problems their audience is experiencing.

Sabrina emphasizes that podcast guesting isn’t about the number of shows you appear on, but the quality of connections you make. She shared how one strategic connection with Nadine Mullings has created multiplication in her business and for her clients.

“God is a God of relationships. Through this one connection, there has been such multiplication in my business and in the business and connections for my clients—I can’t even tell you how much, it’s almost too much to count.”

This approach aligns with Kingdom principles. We’re not doing business the world’s way, focused solely on numbers, but the Lord’s way, where He can multiply the impact of even one appearance.

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Pitching Yourself as a Guest

Sabrina highlighted four common pitfalls to avoid:

1. Lack of research: Don’t mass-pitch to podcasts without thoroughly understanding their message and audience. “Spirituality doesn’t mean the same thing to everybody,” Sabrina warns.


2. Self-focused pitching: Focus on how you can add value to the host’s audience rather than listing your own accomplishments.


3. Giving up after one attempt: Many podcasts receive numerous pitches daily. Follow up if you don’t hear back initially.


4. Trying to fit in: Understand and confidently communicate the unique value you bring. “We’re not supposed to figure out how we can fit, but really understand our value and share that with the podcast host.”
