To take death

Maggie Devers

Chin hairs, on my grandma when she died.
My mother sick with regret.
We are all exposed in death
And she took it on

The chin
Hairs of my friend’s grandmother when she died.
A decade later and half a world away
And her mother’s similar despair.

Why didn’t I warn her?
How could I forget?

I’m looking for the one that lights you up. The one you’re proud of. The one you can’t read without crying. The one that makes you feel something big.

Let’s make space for the one this Fall on One Poem Only.

Deadline is Thursday, July 31.
