When we want to get out of pain, we must first find the dysfunction causing it. In a phone call with my good friend Sadiq, we spoke about pain in the body and the habitual patterns as a result of it. He said, "pain is the body is an alarm to notify us that we're doing something wrong." This could be sitting for a too long, resulting in pain in our back/hips or a particular way we're working out. Listening, I thought to myself, isn't this true of the emotional pain as well? A lot of the time we want to change circumstances in our lives, but fail to recognize the dysfunction, that is, the part of ourselves that is complicit with it. Think about a change you want to bring in your own life. In what ways are you complicit? In what ways do you benefit form this situation not changing? Hint: If we're experiencing something that we want to change, but haven't yet, it is because we benefit in some way. Enjoy this episode and God bless!
