When Should You Think About Marketing Your Book?

Writing a book is an adventure of a lifetime. But wouldn't it be nice if people actually READ your book as well? You've been SO busy with the writing, editing and publishing of your book that marketing was a complete afterthought, but what now? Did you completely miss the boat?
