Started by Synanon, now perpetuated by “Doctor” Phil, the modern Troubled Teen Industry is a collection of ranches, resorts, campgrounds and other facilities that purport to “turn a troubled teen around”. In practice however, these places are wrought with abuse, illegal activity, incompetent staff, and programs that don’t deliver what they promise.
