Laura starts dance lessons and Todd tries to understand sports before talking to the multi-talented broadway performer from Rock of Ages and all around kind human, Regina LeVert. Regina talks to Laura and Todd about what it was like being born with 6 fingers, being a part of a musical family with relatives like Eddie LeVert of the “O’Jays” and Gerald LeVert of “LeVert,” and her experience with Muscle Tension Dysphonia, a condition caused by stress that quite literally took her voice. The trio also dives deep in to what it was like for Regina growing up in America as a black woman, racism on different coasts, code-switching, being white adjacent, the Will Smith “incident” and what it means when people say “to privileged people, equality feels like oppression.” Regina’s latest work, Black Canvas, will be available to the public soon (we’ll keep you posted!) and her yet to be titled book containing interviews with broadway and theater legends will be released within the year.
Regina’s Social:
“Notably, Regina LeVert has such a commanding presence as Justice that when she comes on in Act II, she is instantaneously a crowd favorite. LeVert further has the audience in the palm of her hand with a contemporary version of Journey’s “Any Way You Want It,” which puts the spotlight on Justice’s agile pole dancers”
About Regina: She was such a shy kid that it wasn’t until college, that she discovered her love for the arts. Shortly after passing Acting 101 for Non Majors, Regina started a journey that has gifted her with seeing most of the world. While singing and dancing in many tours and productions in Europe, Asia, Australia and the United States, Regina became a certified scuba diver, zip-lined in the Costa Rican rainforest, sung in the Sydney Opera House, eaten scorpion in Singapore, kayaked with a school of dolphins and cage dived with sharks in Hawaii, and shot grade 4 rapids in New Zealand! Regina’s love of singing is in her blood…she is proud to count the late Gerald LeVert of the R&B group LeVert, and his father Eddie LeVert of the Grammy Hall of Fame R&B group, the O’Jays, as family who have inspired her. Next up: trying to hit a lay up like her Cleveland Cavalier cousin Caris LeVert! Ha!
