Todd serenades Laura, who has all the feels about doing this whole podcast thing, before they welcome well-known psychologist Omar Torres to the show. Not only does Omar have his own practice, but he has been featured on Buzzfeed, PBS, First Person and Vice’s “In My Own World”, a Human interest docu-series. The three talk about Omar knowing he wanted to be psychologist when he was only 5, dealing with other people’s pain after a session, what it’s like to date as a therapist, similarities and differences between treating people in the LGTBQ+ community, Omar’s own experience coming out AND code-switching makes another appearance! The trio also discusses the trauma of Covid, how Omar felt going through the exact same experience as his clients and the downsides of online therapy. Laura and Todd also learn about Camp Brave Trails, finding the right therapist and giving yourself some grace.
The mantra of this show is – “Before you diagnose yourself with anything, make sure you aren’t surrounded by assholes.”
