Joelle joins us to discuss her trauma focused practice and how she helps those with eating disorders, body dysmorphia, and PTSD, as well as her work with first responders, veterans and military personal. She also enlightens us about how her own trauma as a ballet dancer led her into the field of trauma focused therapy, how she uses somatic feelings to treat others, how the body does truly keep the score and healing from her own eating disorder. We also dive into her work with veterans, PTSD versus C-PTSD, how to deal with shame, coaching C-Suite employees on work life balance, and toxic positivity. Joelle Maletis is a licensed clinical psychotherapist, trauma expert, TED-Ed speaker/author, CEO, and podcast host for Switch! as well as Bipolar Girl. For veterans and first responders, trauma impacts them on one of the highest levels and without the right help, can lead to daily struggles interrupting their lives. Due to her expertise in PTSD and trauma, 75% of Joelle’s clients are veterans, active-duty military, and first responders that she helps overcome trauma in order to live the meaningful and balanced lives they deserve. Joelle also helps those with eating disorders and other forms of trauma. As a psychotherapist, Joelle believes that with the right help, everyone can thrive through adversity which is why her goal is to help clients by giving them the tools and knowledge they need to make peace with their trauma.
