WHAT IS THE CALL?
Genesis 2:15 - The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. (NIV)
Part of who we are is made up of what we are called to do.
Man is given work before he is given a partner.
Ephesians 2:10 - For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (ESV)
Romans 11:29 - the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. (ESV)
There is a difference between work and a job.
Work is attached to the God-vision that is inside of us.
A job is a task, especially one that is paid.
WHO IS CALLED?
Ephesians 4:1 - Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. (NLT)
Calling - klésis - a summon to walk in the way of salvation
Worthy - axios - weight to weight
2 Timothy 1:9 - For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. (NLT)
Hebrews 3:1 - Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest. (NIV)
1 Peter 4:10-11 - Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. (NIV)
HOW WE RESPOND
1 - We love one another.
John 13:34-35 - A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. (ESV)
2 - We show up and serve.
Mark 10:45 - For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (NIV)
Matthew 5:14 - You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. (NLT)
3 - We go into all the world.
Mark 16:15 - "And he said to them, 'As you go into all the world, preach openly the wonderful news of the gospel to the entire human race!'" (TPT)
Matthew 28:18-20 - Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (NIV)
