The ecclesia and the ways of God

Matthew 16:18 (Amplified Bible)
"And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My Ecclesia (church), and the gates of Hades (the powers of the infernal region) shall not overpower it [or be strong to its detriment or hold out against it]."

It is the word that Jesus said He was/is going to build. A few folks translated it in a few early English translations as "church". But it seems He chose that word, ecclesia, on purpose.

Since it refers to "a group of citizens who gather for the purpose of governing & ruling". There is inferred power in His chosen word; there is no authority or power in the word "church" that some translators were directed to use.
