James Gunn Created Story of the MCU’s Infinity Stones in ‘2 Seconds’

James Gunn revealed that he developed the story for the MCU's Infinity Stones in "two seconds" during an interview with GQ.[1] He explained that he wrote the scene in the first Guardians of the Galaxy where the Collector explains the origin and power of the stones, despite not fully understanding the MCU's phases himself.[1] Marvel Studios later retroactively designated Loki's scepter and the Aether as Infinity Stones, which required Gunn to change the Power Stone's color from red to purple in post-production for Guardians Vol. 1.[1] Gunn clarified that he did not create the concept of the Infinity Stones, which originated in Marvel Comics, but rather quickly devised their on-screen MCU explanation.
