James Gunn Confirms He’s Currently Writing the SUPERMAN Sequel, But It’s Not “SUPERMAN 2”

James Gunn has officially confirmed that he is currently writing a sequel to his upcoming film, Superman. The confirmation came during an interview with GQ.

This news is significant because the first film, which stars David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, has not yet been released. Its premiere is set for July 11, 2025, and it will serve as the official launch of the new DC Universe (DCU).

The early planning for a sequel demonstrates DC Studios' strong confidence in their new direction under Gunn and Peter Safran. The sequel will be part of the overarching "Chapter One: Gods and Monsters" storyline for the DCU, which will also include interconnected films like Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

While Gunn is confirmed as the writer for the sequel, it has not yet been announced if he will also direct it.
